A new film by American Director Jonathan Nossiter is being released in Florence at the Spazio Alfieri:

Natural Resistance / Resistenza Naturale
85 min, FRA/ITA, 2014

Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 9pm

Ten years after Mondovino, Jonathan Nossiter tells the urgency and the surprises of a new Italian resistance related to wine, agriculture, and cinema. His latest film dedicated to four Italian winemakers who have decided to work the land in full respect of nature and of (slow) time, rebelling against the restrictive rules and bureaucracy suspicious of controls imposed by the European Union that do not safeguard biodiversity and typical products.

And at 11:30pm, Nossiter’s documentary about SACI Graduate Instructor, Lorenzo Pezzatini, Losing the Thread / Perdere il Filo (2000), will be screened. This film, produced by Silvia Lucchesi, was previously presented in competition at the Turin Film Festival (2000), It’s All True Documentary Film Festival of Sao Paulo (2001), Odissea nas Imagens of Porto (2001), and in the Shorts Program of the International Film Festival in Rotterdam (2001). It has been broadcasted by RAISAT and Sundance Channels. Both the director and the artist will be present. Both films are presented in Italian and English.

Losing the Thread / Perdere il Filo
56 min, ITA, 2000

This is portrait of Lorenzo, a Florentine artist who has been repeating the creation of the same work of art for more than twenty years: a pliant and pointed blue-yellow-red acrylic “thread.” Like a modern Don Quixote, Lorenzo, a character on the edge of the official art world, maintains his ideas with stubbornness and conviction. He repeats his gestures, speeches, and actions on the street before a public made up of curious or indifferent passers-by. It is with a “thread” that Lorenzo shares a life, a family, and the spaces of his own home.

“Who has lost the thread? Who is responsible for his own getting lost? Was it lost at the crossroads where the infantile nature of people thirty or more meets the pollution of Disney in Florence? Did the producer’s boyfriend or the film’s own protagonist lose the thread with the almost sexual enjoyment of his own objectification? Or, what’s more, did the director lose the thread when he could not retell the end of the film, C’eravamo tanto amati?” (Jonathan Nossiter).
