Gary Lissa: Inside/Outside

The SACI Gallery in Palazzo dei Cartelloni presents new work by SACI 2D Area Head, Gary Lissa. The exhibition, Inside/Outside, examines studio work vs. en plein air landscapes from around Tuscany, including some large scale landscapes and some from his Redux series that have been radically repainted from their initial realization such as Big Quarry (2006-2014).

Gary Lissa has a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design; MA, University of Iowa; MFA, Rosary College Graduate School, Florence (Villa Schifanoia); he studied at Wimbledon School of Art, England and Stanley William Hayter’s Atelier 17 in Paris, France. He worked as technical consultant and edition printer for “Il Bisonte” print shop in Florence and later served as Teaching Assistant in Color Etching at “Il Bisonte” International School of Printmaking, and has taught at Gonzaga University’s study-abroad program in Florence. He has been regularly exhibiting his work in group and one-person exhibitions since 1975. Gary began teaching at SACI in 1984 where he is an instructor of Drawing, Etching, Painting, and Observational Painting.
