The Day of Contemporary Art @ SACI
SACI MFA Open Studios and Maidoff Gallery Exhibition: Contemporary Photographs by Antonio Manta,“19 Metri Quadri d’Inferno”
Saturday, October 11, 4:00-7:00 pm
On Saturday, October 11, 2014, the 10th AMACI Giornata del Contemporaneo – the Day of Contemporary Art – will be held throughout Italy, to focus on the art of our times. The major event focusing on contemporary art and its public is now in its tenth year. Doors will open free of charge to present artists and new ideas through exhibitions, workshops, events and conferences, as part of a multifaceted program that, year after year, offers an opportunity for the public to experience the complex and lively world of contemporary art. Since its inception, the Day of Contemporary Art has been supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, and has obtained the sponsorship of Italy’s leading institutions.
Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence, Italy offers the only US-accredited MFA in Studio Art and MFA in Photography programs taught entirely in Europe. During their two years in these programs, students are immersed in the contemporary art world. They work in a creative environment of rigorous critical and technical inquiry and draw inspiration from their direct exposure to the unique artistic and cultural resources of Italy. They specialize in Painting, Drawing, or Photography, and work in studios in a fully renovated Renaissance palazzo in Florence’s historic center. The palazzo includes a contemporary art gallery that features works by emerging and established artists of both local and international stature.
SACI invites the general public to meet and interact with these young contemporary artists during an Open Studio event – Saturday, October 11, 4-7pm, in Via Sant’Egidio 14 – where visitors can experience art in the making, and visit the Jules Maidoff Palazzo Gallery, which is featuring photographs by Antonio Manta.
