Tashi

Tashi (Hanti Liu), is a Buddhist monk who makes paintings, installations and mixed media artworks. Tashi graduated from The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, spending his last semester at SACI in Fall 2011.

With a conceptual approach, Tashi seeks to build a wide scale of multi-layered subjects. He likes to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and believes in the idea of function following form in a work.

His paintings do not reference recognizable forms. The results are deconstructed and rebuilt from his experiences. By applying abstraction, he creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, thus luring the viewer into the works.

His works directly respond to the surrounding environment and society, using everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point. Often these are framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context.

He had exhibited his artworks at La Corte Arte Contemporanea, Firenze and in Taichung, Taiwan. His work was also collected by Hudson Valley Community College in Albany, NY, and by private collectors.
