STIGL-LIFE: Pietro Manzo

June 23 – July 12, 2015

Opening: Tuesday, June 23 at 6:30pm

Fattoria Montestiglianto, Sovicille, Siena – ITALY

SACI instructor, Pietro Manzo is exhibiting his work in a solo show as part of a series of contemporary art and musical events called Un’altra storia, un altro viaggio, organized by the Cultural Association Il Granaio and the city of Sovicille, near Siena.

Held in the space of a former barn, the exhibition will present a selection of works from 2012 to date, inspired by the theme of the viaggio (trip), understood as an opportunity to analyze and reinvent places and events through memory. The works on display are the result of a series of studies done by Manzo within industrial wastelands and former factories, deprived of their original function, and in time having become relics of our society.

“I’ve always had a certain fascination with large industrial areas, abandoned spaces suddenly left from former businesses. Moved by my curiosity to see beyond legality, I have entered these areas, which are in some cases subject to judicial seizure, and I explored the morphology of the moment through sketches, splashes of color, and photos. Back in the studio, I draw on my visual memory which unconsciously revises the images now inside of my memories, therefore creating impossible places as the result of the sum of experiences of reality.”

The exhibition is complemented by the new series, Walls, 2015, that develops the concept of the wall intended as an obstacle, impediment, dividing membrane between inside and outside, between public and private, past and present in a suspended time in the uncertainty of the present.
