The Mandarin Oriental, a new luxury hotel, designed by internationally renowned studio Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel Interiors, recently opened in Milan. Four 18th-century palazzi were renovated from a former bank headquarters to create a contemporary and elegant space which fuses 1940s Milanese design with Asian influences. The hotel, located just steps away from the Duomo and La Scala Opera House, boasts 104 hotel rooms of which 31 are suites, an eclectic choice of restaurants, and a holistic spa.

Antonio Citterio is an Italian architect, furniture designer, and industrial designer based in Milan. Citterio graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and since 1972 has worked for many leading design manufacturers such as Ansorg, Arclinea, Axor-Hansgrohe, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Iittala, Kartell, Sanitec Group, Technogym, and Vitra. Maxalto, a B&B Italia brand, is designed and coordinated entirely by Antonio Citterio. He has also been engaged in architectural and interior projects in Italy and around the world. He lectures and gives conferences internationally, and his work has been extensively exhibited and published. He has won many prizes, including the prestigious Compasso d’Oro in 1987 and 1995. Products he has designed are part of the MoMA permanent collection and the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris.
