SACI MFA in Studio Art first-year and second-year students went to Milan on Wednesday with their instructors Karen Yurkovich and Daria Filardo. They visited the recently opened Milan venue of the Prada Foundation, with an architectural intervention conceived by OMA—led by Rem Koolhaas. A fantastic collection of contemporary art is displayed in the industrial spaces of an old distillery of the early 1900s, including works by Damien Hirst, John Baldessari, Lucio Fontana, Pino Pascali, David Hockney, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Yves Klein, Francis Picabia, Bruce Nauman, Robert Rauschenberg, Man Ray, Richard Serra and more!

The field trip also included a stop at the Palazzo Reale in the next to Milan’s duomo to see the exhibition La Grande Madre curated by Massimiliano Gioni for the Trussardi Foundation. Through the work of more than a hundred international artists, The Great Mother traces a history of women’s empowerment, chronicling gender struggles, sexual politics, and clashes between tradition and emancipation, from early avant-garde movements to the present.
