Jules Maidoff was born in New York City, in 1933. He grew up in the Bronx, the descendent of a Jewish family which had immigrated to the United States. He studied painting at Cooper Union and the City College of New York where he received his degree in 1956. Maidoff defines this period as the one of a Bronx emigrant in Manhattan. In 1956-57 he went to Italy on a Fulbright grant and returned to NYC for postgraduate studies at New York University in 1957-58. He held many exhibitions during this period and worked in graphic design and advertising. Many of his works have been acquired by important museums (Riverside Museum, Brandeis University Museum, New York University Museum) and by famous personalities such as Robert Joffrey, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ravi Shankar, Mick Jagger, and many more.

By the end of the 60′s he returned to Tuscany, moving there permanently in 1973. Jules Maidoff was forty years old then, and he was leaving behind his graphic design and commercial work to wholly dedicate himself to painting. In 1975 he founded Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence where he worked as a teacher and director. Jules Maidoff has had more than 100 exhibitions of his work worldwide.
