SACI Alumna, Resa Blatman (Spring 1984) went on an expeditionary artist residency with The Arctic Circle this summer. She photographed these magnificent landscapes in the Arctic Circle while sailing along the west coast of Svalbard, Norway, during the month of June 2015. They stopped at some of the Arctic’s most famous glaciers, to hike, explore, and take note of the beautiful, thunderous sounds of glaciers calving. At left, you can see Resa standing on the roof of the world’s seed bank in Longyearbyen (Svalbard), Norway, and below, her works with dried Arctic seaweed with painted Mylar.

Below you can see details of two new drawings done since Resa has returned from the Arctic Circle. They are made with oil on graphite on laser-cut Mylar. She has several other drawings in process, and is working on a few 3d drawings, using fishing line found along the shores of the Arctic (all in progress, below). Also below is an installation view of Gaia Part 2, 2015 currently at the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon, Georgia. At the moment, Resa is “feverishly working away in my studio on a commissioned installation for North Hill Residence, due to be completed in late October.”
