A photo of a work created on the banks of the Seine by SACI MFA in Studio Art candidate, Keri Rosebraugh, “An Ankh for Paris” was selected from several works in the ArtClash 2016 exhibition in Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio held last month for the Tuscan Anglo-American Festival which also included work by other SACI students.
22 works were chosen for a second exhibition to be held at the California State Univeristy in Florence. From there, the pieces will become part of the permanent collection at the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Florina in Greece. The works will also be featured in an exhibition catalog.
The installation, made with 200 Baguettes measuring 16mx12m, was a collaboration with French artist Phillippe Nodluaner, created to show solidarity and support for Paris after the terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015. The Ankh, an Egyptian hieroglyphic symbol meaning “everlasting life,” is also known to be the shape of a bull’s vertebra, implying strength and power.
The exhibition, curated by Marsha Steinberg, involves a collaboration between several US and Italian programs in Florence, the Region of Tuscany, the Comune di Firenze, and the Contemporary Art Museum of Florina in Greece.
