Happy Birthday Mona Lisa! Events in San Frediano: June 15, 2016 include SACI instructor

Monnalisa Day

MONNALISA DAY
4th Edition
June 15, 2016 from 5:30pm-2am
Neighborhood of San Frediano – Florence, ITALY

The Mona Lisa (aka la Gioconda), model for the most famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, was born in the San Frediano neighborhood of Florence on 15th of June under the name of Lisa Gherardini. Contemporary artist Franco Bini retraced Monalisa’s story and in 2013 gave birth to a project called Monnalisa Day. This project is now curated by his daughter, Caterina Bini. By symbolically celebrating Monalisa’s birthday, it opens the doors to a Contemporary Renaissance that allows Florence to become again the center of a creative and amused art, where everyone is invited to participate.

The birthday celebration boasts a full calendar of creative events, and every edition has been original and innovative. Past years have included the Monalisa Walking, with guided tours in traditional costumes; the MY-LISA contest; the Louvre in via Maggio; the Monalisa-Gay…

In recent years, the festival managed to bring to via Maggio, the antique dealers’ street, Marcel Duchamp’s Gioconda (1919) and Andy Warhol’s Monalisa (1979)! For the upcoming fourth edition look for a “cycling” traveling exhibition on t-shirts and postcards to send to the Louvre, the Renaissance Happy Hour, music, art, readings, fashion and much more.

Many institutions are involved with Monnalisa Day (Museo Ideale di Leonardo Da Vinci, Associazione Via Maggio, Associazione In Piazza, trattoria Quattro Leoni, Cenacolo degli Sparecchiatori, just to name a few) and numerous guests and artists participate every year, some having included: Alessandro Vezzosi, Carla Gozzi (Discovery Channel), Diego Passoni (Radio Deejay), Piero Pelù, Stefano Benedetti, Claudio Gherardini, Andrea Mariotti, Mattew Licht, Dre Halyard, Jaka, Millelemmi, Chiara Burgio, Vincenzo D’Agostino. While SACI Instructor, Marco Fallani, Marco Bagnoli, Nancy Rica Schiff, Alessandro Gaggio, Stefano Benedetti, Antonio Corrani and Jerry Lee Ingram are only some of the artists participating this year.
