Le Murate PAC – FLORENCE, ITALY – September 15-22, 2016
From September 15-22, the 4th edition of SOURCE SELF-MADE DESIGN festival returns to Florence with a full calendar of presentations (over 50 guest speakers), workshops, brainstorming sessions, and exhibitions of “under-30” designers from around the world. This annual event, held for the first time at Le Murate PAC, attracts makers, artisans, creatives, architects, digital experimenters, experts, and visitors curious about design. The Source Festival aims to provide tools and organize opportunities to meet and exchange on the theme of innovation, not only for professionals but also for amateurs. Many events are in English and free to visitors not seeking professional credits.
The program includes the first Design Talent search, which will give the opportunity to some young creatives to be integrated into a company in the fashion and accessories sector, in collaboration with Obi – Officina Bigiotteria Italiana.
Another novelty this year is the partnership forged with Sharepopup: a platform that manages a network of shared spaces and designers who seek visibility. Shops and spaces around the city (14 in all) are hosting a selection of objects created by young talents.
Among the many initiatives, Spanish designer, Alvaro Catalan de Ocon, speaks on The social impact of design. De Ocon presents the “PET Lamp,” an award-winning project of social design that reuses PET resources, transforming recycled plastic bottles by the hands of Colombian artisans, into colorful lampshades (09/16 at 6pm).
Source is a cultural project born from the need to create a custom container offering space, visibility and opportunities to designers. Source wants participants to benefit from training, and professional relationships and contacts. In addition, they offer free display space to young designers, which allows their work greater visibility.
