The culture of Contemporary Art in Tuscany has also been built thanks to the multitude of galleries active throughout the entire region, which for many years have been helping to spread recent artistic aesthetics. Galleries of modern and contemporary art in Tuscany are part of a wide and varied landscape—each one with its own identity, projects and perspectives focusing on twentieth-century masters, as well as cutting-edge research.
La Torre di Babele (The Tower of Babel), curated by SACI instructor, Pietro Gaglianò, involves 23 galleries that are part of ANGAMC (National Association of Galleries of Modern and Contemporary Art), each one presented through an artist who is emblematic, even only partially, of the gallery’s story and vocation.
The curatorial theme of the Tower of Babel is inspired and conceived of as a symbol of the continuous challenge that every artist is faced with: the human need to go beyond limits, to search for a vision, which has guided man ever since the biblical episode.
Various languages and aesthetics in painting, sculpture and complex installations make up the exhibition involving 23 artists from very different generations and backgrounds. Twenty-three large works of art, in certain cases expressly created for this occasion, are installed in the evocative space of the Ex Lucchesi, a former textile factory in Prato.
