Christine Garvey: Working Objects

Through December 9, 2016

SACI’s Maidoff Gallery, Florence – ITALY

Working Objects, a recent series of collage-paintings by Christine Garvey and the subject of her Fulbright research explores the relationship between nature and technology as felt between two Florence-specific museums: Museo Galileo and La Specola’s house of anatomy. Garvey interrogates these two collections through drawing from observation – a powerful method that allows her to access and engage with the questions that live behind objects. What is the spirit behind their making? How did they come to take this form? How do they speak to one another? Read more.

Originally from New York, Christine Garvey received her MFA from Concordia University Montreal, and BFA from Washington University in St Louis. Her works on paper and installations have been exhibited internationally, including solo exhibitions with Galerie Circulaire (Montreal), Sur La Montagne Galerie (Berlin) and Phra Nakorn Gallery (Bangkok). Garvey is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including Concordia University Faculty of Fine Arts Fellowship, Mobility Travel Award, and most recently a Fulbright Research Grant to Florence, where she conducted research this past year at La Specola and Museo Galileo.
