RYAN WARD: Regular Everyday-Sized Monuments
May 22 – June 23, 2017
Artist Reception: Monday, May 29th at 6pm
Ryan Ward holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, a BFA from Marywood University, and is a SACI alumnus (2004). His work explores the malleability of history. He reimagines past events through painting and large scale installation. Rather than aim for resolution, these reconfigurations pose questions about historical presentation itself.
As the recipient of the 2014 Murray Dessner Memorial Travel Prize, he executed an in-depth investigation of the curatorial methods of U.S. historical sites. This has led to recent solo and group exhibitions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia. Ward currently divides his time between Scranton and Philadelphia, PA. He teaches drawing and painting at Marywood University, curates exhibitions, and leads students on a European study tour each year.
