Party of One: Anna Rose

September 12-October 15, 2017

Opening reception on September 12 at 6pm

SACI’s Fall 2017 exhibition season at the Maidoff Gallery is kicking off with Party of One, a selection of recent video, photography and sculpture works by artist Anna Rose (SACI Alumna, Post-Bac 2006-2007). Don’t miss the opening on September 12 at 6pm. The show will be on view through October 15, 2017.

Party of One suggests a sense of both solitude and playfulness often found in the artist’s work in which the roles and gestures of quotidian objects and familiar symbols are scrambled, entering into a game of shape-shifting mythologies. Engaging in futile feats of hypnotic repetition or the transformation of physical appearance, these works propose a reflection on self-awareness and vanity in a contemporary culture which seems to value both equally.

Anna Rose (b. 1982, Massachusetts, USA) has lived and worked in Florence, Italy since 2004. She received a Post-Baccalaureate certificate from SACI in 2007, followed by an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute in 2014. Her work spans video, photography, costume and installation with a sensibility towards the relationship between body and environment, entering into conversation with historical, psychological, and cultural mythologies of place.

Recent exhibitions include Come up to my room, Toronto, Canada 2017; TU35 Firenze – Geografie dell’arte emergente in Toscana, Prato 2016; Inside Lottozero, Prato 2016; Hair Picnic, Das KloHäuschen, Munich, Germany, 2015; Apres Coup Dischiusure, TAI-Tuscan Art Industry, Prato, 2015, Arrêts sur images, Casa Masaccio Arte Contemporanea, San Giovanni Valdarno, 2014.
